FOXBORO, MA (The Spread) - Will the Patriots overcome the offseason distractions that they had to make a run at the 2014 Super Bowl?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are 10/1 to win the 2014 Super Bowl and 9/2 to win the AFC Conference title this season. They're also a clear -300 favorite to win the AFC East Division and have an over/under of 11 for the number of wins they'll have in 2013. Their odds to make the playoffs are -700 for and +475 against.

The biggest acquisition the Patriots made this offseason was signing former Rams receiver Danny Amendola to a long-term contract. The deal signaled the end of Wes Welker's tenure in New England, as the veteran wideout signed a free agent deal with Denver. Amendola is younger and has more speed than Welker, but he's been injury prone throughout his career and is no sure bet to make it through 16 full games.

The Patriots didn't wind up with a first-round pick this year but they did select outside linebacker Jamie Collins of Southern Miss and Marsahll receiver Aaron Dobson in the second. In the third they took Rutgers cornerback Logan Ryan and his teammate Duron Harmon, and in the fourth they selected TCU receiver Josh Boyce.

Barring injury to Tom Brady, New England is a near lock to win the AFC East this season but whether or not the team can overcome the Broncos, Texans and/or Ravens in the playoffs is the question. If Amendola can stay healthy he offers the team a nice replacement for Welker, but if he suffers an injury then the Pats offense could be overcome by inexperience.

There's also the question of whether or not they'll be able to overcome the horrible situation involving former tight end Aaron Hernandez, who is facing murder chargers in the death of Odin Lloyd. Rob Gronkowski's status is also unknown for the first half of the season and without him, Brady will have even more pressure on his shoulders than ever before.
