MASN’s Roch Kubatko reports that the Orioles are on the verge of signing former Mets and Twins ace Johan Santana to a minor league contract. Santana was in Baltimore’s camp on Monday working out the details after topping out at 81 mph during a throwing session for teams last week. The 34-year-old is recovering from a second major shoulder surgery and many wonder if his big league career is done.

Santana won the Cy Young Award in 2004 and in 2006 and is a four-time All-Star. He also led the American League in strikeouts from 2004 to 2006 and threw a controversial no-hitter on June 1, 2012 against the Cardinals. (The game was memorable because Carlos Beltran looked to break up the no-hitter earlier in the contest but the ball was ruled foul.)

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Orioles are 33/1 to win the 2014 World Series and 7/1 to win the American League East. They’re also 16/1 to win the AL pennant, which gives them the same odds as the Royals and Blue Jays.
