Tuesday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

Here are two streaking and two slumping starting pitchers set to take the hill Tuesday:

Matt Moore, Tampa Bay Rays (6-0, 2.14 ERA)

Moore has assumed the role of temporary ace of the Rays pitching staff while David Price fights through his early struggles. The crafty lefty has wins in six of his seven starts and will get the ball against the Red Sox Tuesday opposite John Lackey.

Patrick Corbin, Arizona Diamondbacks (5-0, 1.75 ERA)

Corbin hasn't given up more than two runs in any of his seven outings this year. The left-hander has wins in three consecutive starts and has only surrendered two homers in just over 46 innings pitched.

Bartolo Colon, Oakland Athletics (3-2, 4.57 ERA)

Colon racked up three wins in his first four starts, but the righty has struggled over his last three outings. The 39-year-old hurler has been beat up for 14 earned runs over his last three outings and was hit hard by the Tribe for six earned last time out.

Kyle Lohse, Milwaukee Brewers (1-4, 3.53 ERA)

The Brewers had high expectations for Lohse when they signed him in the offseason to a three-year deal. The righty is just 1-4 on the season, but he hasn’t pitched that poorly as reflected in his 3.53 ERA. Milwaukee is providing Lohse with just two runs of support per game – the worst run support in the majors.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes

San Francisco Giants at Toronto Blue Jays

Blue Jays off a successful 4-3 road swing including a 2-1 weekend at Fenway Park return to Toronto for a mini two game interleague match up against defending champion San Francisco Giants. Despite the burst in success the Blue Jays remain A.L. East basement dwellers having won just fifteen of the first thirty-nine games costing backers -$1010 at the betting window. Jays start the series off with R.A. Dickey (2-5, 5.06 ERA) on the mound. The knuckler erratic with his new club tries to halt a four game winless streak that has seen the hurler give up 5 yard-ball, 17 runs over the span (0-4 TSR). Dickey is 0-1 w/4.05 ERA vs Giants in three career starts with Mets (1-2 TSR). Giants winning 3-of-4 vs Braves over the weekend are holding down top spot in the N.L. West at 23-15 (+$542). Giants are countering with Barry Zito (3-1, 2.75 ERA). The southpaw is making opponents earn what they get against him allowing just 2 runs over his last 12.0 innings of work (2-0 TSR). Zito yielding just three dingers all season should keep Toronto's league-leading home run hitters (51) in check as Jays have tagged just 11 of the 51 over the fences against left-handed starters. Zito heading to the hill 5-3 w/3.50 ERA in 11 starts vs Toronto (8-3 TSR) hands Jays it's 9th loss this season facing a port-side hurler (3-8, -$604).

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays play the first of their three game set against the Red Sox at the Trop. Rays on a five game win streak look to lefty Matt Moore (6-0, 2.14 ERA) to keep the streak alive. So far this season it's been a good bet to play Rays w/Moore as they're 7-0 in games he has started. However, the southpaw could be in for a let down. He's hasn't got past the fifth his last two starts allowing 6 runs while walking 8 and only striking out 5 batters. Moore is 0-2 life-time vs Red Sox. On the other side, Boston counters with John Lackey. Red Sox haven't had much success with the hurler posting a 1-3 mark over his four starts. Lackey is off one of his better starts striking out eight, walking one over seven innings but a poor throw to second in the 6th on a potential inning-ending double play cost him four runs and a loss. Boston already 3-0 vs Rays' this season, 10-2 opening a series, 4-2 as a road underdog vs a division foe and Lackey 12-6 life-time vs Rays the Red Sox are worth a second look.
