Kings at Blackhawks: What Bettors Need to Know
By Covers.com

Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks (-128, 5)

The Chicago Blackhawks opened their season with a 5-2 victory at Los Angeles. On Sunday, the Blackhawks host the Kings sporting the best record in the NHL. Chicago is the only team without a regulation loss this season, and not even an upper-body injury to starting goaltender Corey Crawford could cool its hot start. Ray Emery made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over San Jose on Friday. Emery is 4-0-0 this season and will likely start until Crawford is ready to return.

Los Angeles has won two straight since benching starting goaltender Jonathan Quick, who has not played close to his Vezina-nominated form from last season with a .891 save percentage in 10 starts. Jonathan Bernier has held opponents to one goal in each of his two starts this week as the Kings won back-to-back games in regulation for the first time this season. Los Angeles was 1-for-5 on the power play in both wins and is 3-1-1 when scoring with the man advantage.

ABOUT THE KINGS (5-5-2): Anze Kopitar leads the team with eight points and is on a three-game scoring streak. Jeff Carter has a team-leading six goals, while Justin Williams has one goal on a team-leading 44 shots. Defenseman Drew Doughty is a team-worst minus-9 but leads the team with 16 blocked shots. Defenseman Slava Voynov has five points in six games this month. Kyle Clifford has seven points to go with his team-leading 42 hits.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (11-0-3): Patrick Kane leads Chicago with nine goals and 21 points and has been held off the scoresheet just once this season. Kane has seven goals and 12 points on an eight-game scoring streak. Captain Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa each have six goals thus far. The Blackhawks have the second-best penalty-killing in the league, allowing only four goals on 51 opportunities for 92.2% effectiveness.

TRENDS:

* The under is 7-0 in Blackhawks’ last seven home games.
* Under is 2-0-2 in Kings’ last four overall.
* Blackhawks are 6-1 in their last seven vs. Pacific foes.
* Road team is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

OVERTIME:

1. The Kings won both visits to Chicago last season after going winless in six trips over the previous three seasons.

2. The Blackhawks tied the 1943-44 Canadiens for the third-longest point streak to open the season at 14 games. Only the 1984-85 Oilers (15) and 2006-07 Ducks (16) have had better starts.

3. Toews has four goals and three assists in his last five games against Los Angeles.

Sunday's NHL Betting News and Notes
By Covers.com

Take a look at our quick-hitting betting notes for all seven games on the NHL schedule Sunday.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Buffalo Sabres (+139, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT), Ryan Miller (BUF)

The Penguins will vie for their eighth road victory in 10 outings this season on Sunday when they visit the First Niagara Center. Marc-Andre Fleury has stumped the Sabres in his career, winning six of his last seven starts to improve to 11-4-2 all-time. Buffalo has scored on just one of its last 30 opportunities on the power play. The Sabres failed on all 10 chances with the man advantage in last season's series against the Penguins. The over is 4-1 in the Sabres’ last five home games.

Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks (-128, 5)

Probable goaltenders: Jonathan Quick (LAK), Ray Emery (CHI)

Chicago is the only team without a regulation loss this season, and not even an upper-body injury to goaltender Corey Crawford could cool its hot start. Ray Emery made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over San Jose on Friday to improve to 4-0-0 on the season. The Kings won both visits to Chicago last season after going winless in six trips over the previous three seasons. The under is 7-0 in the Blackhawks’ last seven home games.

Boston Bruins at Winnipeg Jets (+131, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Tuukka Rask (BOS), Ondrej Pavelec (WPG)

The Bruins have dropped two straight (0-1-1) after winning six of their previous seven and Winnipeg fell for the third time in four games with 3-1 setback to Pittsburgh on Friday. To add injury to insult, defenseman Tobias Enstrom exited the contest after suffering an injury to his right shoulder following a collision. The 28-year-old Swede, who leads the Jets with 11 assists and 13 points, is expected to receive the results of his MRI on Sunday. The Bruins and Jets are saddled with struggling special teams play. Boston has scored on two of its last 24 power-play opportunities while Winnipeg's penalty kill has yielded 14 goals on 43 chances. The under is 5-0 in the Jets’ last five games overall.

Calgary Flames at Dallas Stars (-140, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Joey MacDonald (CGY), Richard Bachman (DAL)

The Dallas Stars suffered a setback at Calgary on Wednesday after backup goaltender Richard Bachman was battered in the 7-4 loss. The Stars won’t have much choice but to start Bachman when they host the Flames on Sunday. Starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen left in the first period of Friday’s 4-3 victory over Vancouver with a groin injury and Bachman made 18 saves in relief for his first win of the season. The Flames, who lost 5-2 at home to the Blues Friday, are 0-7 in their last seven games following a home loss of three or more goals.

Detroit Red Wings at Minnesota Wild (+120, 5)

Probable goaltenders:  Petr Mrazek (DET), Niklas Backstrom (MIN)

Like Minnesota, Detroit is hoping to avoid a three-game winless streak. The Red Wings have outscored the Wild 11-3 in winning the last two encounters between the clubs. In fact, Detroit is 8-1-2 in the last 11 overall matchups between the teams. But Minnesota (3-1-5) has notched at least one point in eight of its last nine home meetings with Detroit. The under is 7-1-1 in the Wild’s last nine games overall.

Washington Capitals at New York Rangers (-157, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Braden Holtby (WSH), Henrik Lundqvist (NYR)

After a brutal start, the Washington Capitals are beginning to put it together. The Capitals will vie for their fourth consecutive victory on Sunday.  The Rangers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Islanders on Thursday. New York F Rick Nash sat out Saturday's practice, but coach John Tortorella detailed that it was just a "body maintenance day." The home team is 4-0 in the last four meetings.

St. Louis Blues at Vancouver Canucks (-134, 5.5)

Probable goaltenders: Jake Allen (STL), Roberto Luongo (VAN)

The St. Louis Blues attempt to complete their three-game road trip with a perfect record when they visit the Northwest Division-leading Vancouver Canucks.  Vancouver is coming off a disappointing 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars on Friday during which it squandered a 3-1 lead. Canucks G Cory Schneider will ride the pine Sunday and Roberto Luongo will start. Luongo has silenced his critics by posting a 4-0-2 record and a league-leading 1.45 goals-against average in seven games (six starts). The winning team has scored three goals or less in each of the last nine meetings between the clubs.
