By Anthony Rome

(The Spread) – Even though they were swept out of the 2012 World Series, the Detroit Tigers have opened as the favorites to win next year’s MLB championship.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv have installed the Tigers as 6/1 favorites to win the 2013 World Series, while the New York Yankees have the next best odds at 7/1. The team that beat the Tigers in this year’s championship game, the San Francisco Giants, are 10/1 to win the 2013 World Series.

The Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels are all 12/1, respectively, to win next year’s World Series, while the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves are 14/1, respectively. The Rangers were beaten by the A’s in the American League Wild Card game, while the Nationals fell to the Cardinals in the NLDS and the Reds blew a 2-0 series lead versus the defending champion Giants in the other National League Divisional Series.

Continuing with the odds, the Dodgers are 18/1 to win next year’s World Series, while the Rays are 20/1 and the Red Sox are 22/1. The Diamondbacks, Orioles, Brewers and A’s are all 25/1, respectively, while the White Sox are 28/1. The Pirates are 30/1.

Some of the long shots to win baseball’s title in 2013 are the Blue Jays at 35/1, the Mariners, Marlins and Mets at 40/1, respectively, and the Padres at 60/1. The Twins are 66/1, the Cubs, Indians, Rockies and Royals are all 75/1, respectively, and the Astros are the biggest longshots at 150/1 to win the 2013 World Series.
