2013 World Baseball Classic Odds to Win – USA Favored over Field Print

(The Spread) – The United States is favored to win the 2013 World Baseball Classic, but where are their odds compared to the rest of the field?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, USA baseball is a 5/2 favorite to win the 2013 World Baseball Classic while the Dominican Republic has the next best odds at 11/4. Japan has odds of 7/2, Venezuela is 8/1 and Korea is 14/1. Canada, meanwhile, has the same odds as Cuba at 16/1, respectively.

Continuing with the odds, Chinese Tapei is 18/1 to win the 2013 World Baseball Classic, while Mexico and Puerto Rico is 20/1, respectively. China and Netherlands are 33/1, respectively, while Australia is 66/1. The long shots to win this year’s World Baseball Classic are Brazil and Italy at 100/1, and Spain at 200/1.

This year’s Classic will start on March 2 and conclude on March 19. There are 16 teams spanning four continents and the defending champion is Japan, which won the 2009 World Baseball Classic when it beat South Korea at Dodger Stadium on March 23. Daisuke Matsuzaka was named Most Valuable Player in that tournament and following Japan and South Korea, Venezuela finished third and the U.S. finished fourth.

Pool A’s games will be played at the Fukoka Dome while Pool B will compete at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. Pool C will play at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, and Pool D will compete at Chase Field in Phoenix. Pool D will play at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona, while Pool 1 will play at the Tokyo Dome.  Pool 2 will then play at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, and the Finals will be played at AT&T Park in San Francisco, home of the 2012 World Series champion Giants.
